A friend who is preparing for exams has developed a sudden allergy to phone calls and can’t bear the sight of her phone switched on, keeping it off most of the time. Many friends are nowadays reluctant to take calls from their second circle of friends or an acquaintance because they think people are intruding. More than one of my close friends have actually deleted their Facebook while several more are mulling over doing the same. This apathy towards connectivity is a sure sign of growing up I’d say. Not just that, we are tired of too many connections. As for me, I think I have reached the point where I have more friends and contacts than I can handle. Too many people call me all the time. If I take an evening nap, I wake up to see at least half a dozen missed calls! Senior friend Johnda has correctly observed on Bong Buzz:
I personally believe that the mobile phone and social networking are bringing us too close than they were meant to be (as in how human beings are supposed to be); what about personal space? Personal time? A real life?
