While the all new Groups feature of Facebook, aiming to give users more control with whom they share stuff, has become talk of the town with people raving about the group chat (hint: read my previous post), concerns has been raised that these group chats might at times get a little pesky! Say if some of your friends in a group are online and having a chat but you are not willing to join the conversation right then, it can be quite irritating for you as the chats will keep coming in and those red coloured digits signifying the many lines of text sent will glare at you like anything!
In moments like this, while you are Facebooking but not really in a mood to get involved in a conversation, you may wonder how to turn off the chats from coming in! It does make sense to stop the group chat at times, albeit temporarily. Here’s how:
- The Facebook Group settings can be found at the top right of your page.
- Uncheck the checkbox next to ‘Send me group chat messages’.

Hi thank you for this info but Im having an opposite issue.. you see, Ive set up a group that now has approximately 700 members.. the first day I set up te group page, (not a fan page), I think we had chat but now I dont have the “chat with group” anywhere on my page it has totally disappeared.. how do i retrieve it for my group? I am the admin of the group and dont understand how this feature just disappeared.. everyone else who has started a group after me have it on their page but not me.. please help!

Hi Wanda, Facebook allows group chat only for groups with less than 250 members. The groups you see are having the chat must be having less than 250 members. The option vanishes for a group as soon as they cross the 250 mark. Sorry you can’t do anything about it. Unless Facebook changes their mind in future.

Ban only from chat is not possible in Facebook groups.
greetings, I excluded a spam master from one of my groups. Removed him out of my facebook yet he can still access the same group. I cannot see him at all but the other members can…..HELP!
You can ban him from if you wish
Make the group private if you want to stop group access to outsiders.

in fb group chat if i want appear invisible to its memebers then what shud i do
Look, Facebook doesn’t allow invisible chat. But technically it is possible to be invisible in a group chat and eavesdrop like a loser. Now the question is why would you ever do that? Isn’t it more fun to join the conversation and start interacting! If not in the mood, just close the damn chat window or disable the chats coming from the group.
Of course I could write another post on how you can appear invisible in a group chat but that would be wrong on so many levels. Besides, many people already know the trick.

i am tahsin. . and many many thanks . i got help from these page about why group chat gone after 255 member added. so my friend delete some member and it is working again less then 250 is good ..
i have learn FB limitation about group chat … it will help me in future when i got morethat 250 member …
