Amid growing speculations, the news finally came today that the newly formed Kalyani Medical College will begin admitting students from the next academic year i.e. 2010-2011 adding 100 more MBBS seats in West Bengal taking the total seat number to 1205, eventually bringing a smile to many aspiring students who cracked the WBJEE this year and await their counselling due next month. The principal of this government medical college is none other than the legendary Prof. (Dr.) Samar Deb whom we had the privilege to have as our Anatomy HOD and Dean of Students Affairs in North Bengal Medical College. The college
is not affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and will enjoy a fair degree of autonomy, it is hoped. The fees structure will be different from that of other government medical colleges in West Bengal.
