My Online Adventures… Niponwave and et cetera
Published August 15th, 2008 in Personal. Tags: personal.I wanted to have a website of my own for a long long time. In the long vacation we get after Madhyamik, I was obsessed with website making and all. I remember how I used to scour the net in search of a reliable free host, one that came without ads! I got many but most perished after sometime. I had at least half a dozen of websites here hosted here and there. But none of them had any significant content. So while creating and hosting the site was the first challenge, what content to put in seemed to be an even more daunting task.
As I got busy with +2 academics, website making craze took a backseat and it was only after the HS exam I got back at it with renewed zeal. This time though, I was sure about the content thing. For I have come to know about blogs by this time. A blog contains posts arranged in a chronological order. It’s pretty simple and I don’t have to decide on content at the beginning - it will keep accumulating with time.
Also, I had another thing in mind. I was always writing elaborate mails to my close and dear pals about my experiences or my reaction to a particular event or something. It occurred to me instead of mailing friends if I blogged, I could reach out to a greater number of people. Also, when I left St. Lawrence our English teacher Shikha mam had personally urged me to continue the habit of writing. She told me exactly these words - When I corrected your pretest papers I found this is one boy who writes differently!
A blog would be a perfect platform to share my gyan and also keep on writing, I thought. Thus I floated Niponwave in air with much excitement. I asked my friends a hundred of times to check it till they got bored! However, I never thought the site would grow so popular as it is today. In fact, I always posted taking my friends as the target readers. Somehow, may be due to the long hours I spent in SEO, it shot to a huge popularity in search engines drawing lakhs of visitors. This encouraged me to accept some advertisements and I got the taste of professional blogging or rather probloging as the blogging gurus will put it. Though I don’t find much time to invest here these days, yet till date I continue to get lakhs of page views, dozens of emails daily… So Niponwave, which was mainly a teenage fancy, is a grand success you see… Guess what I have made many good friends through Niponwave, people who got curious to know me after seeing my blog.
As for my other online adventures, I am very much attached to OmicronLab. Other than helping out new Avro users in the forum, I played my little part in popularising the software through Niponwave. Niponwave is an official download site for Avro, the best Bengali writing software available for Windows. Impressed by the success of Niponwave my friends wanted to get involved, which prompted me to start Bong Buzz where I roped in some 10 friends of mine. But it almost turned out to be a misadventure as most of my friends lost their craze soon and became inactive and I too lost interest. However, somehow the site thrived and looks very promising at the moment from the traffic point of view. Right now, if you visit it you will see some really great posts by my friends. Then I also started a technology blog in collaboration with two friends from IIT Roorkee but that is still in a very nascent stage as all of us are very busy and can’t devote much time to it.
