Darjeeling Mail to run faster
Published March 2nd, 2007 in Kolkata and Siliguri. Tags: kolkata, siliguri.
According to an Anandabazar report, Darjeeling Mail will run faster from October this year cutting down transit time by a whopping one hour. As of now, trains can run with a maximum speed of about 70 km/hr. New lines are being laid which can sustain velocities as high as 100 km/hr. The work of laying more resilient lines between New Jalpaiguri and Malda is already complete and that between Malda and Saithia is being undertaken.
This means it will now take 9 hours instead of 10. That’s good news for me. I have to travel to and fro Siliguri 12 times a year. This way I will be saving 24 hours in a year, that is a full day! Gee! ![]()
