Unfortunately, students have no access to the closing ranks for admission to MBBS/BDS. In fact, the CSC-Medical has no site of its own. So let me give this much needed information without further ado. This information is based on data collected after 3rd counselling.

As per last year’s trends, you have chance of getting MBBS in 1st counselling. In 2nd counselling, you have a sure chance of getting MBBS.

It’s hard to predict but you might get in North Bengal Dental College if you are lucky.
The site wbjeeb.in will publish the counselling details. An advertisement will appear in 2 leading newspapers. Information is also available from Calcutta Medical College.
Ipsita, Take a look at the closing ranks for medical colleges for the year 2006 I have given here and you will get an idea.
As for engg. I don’t really know but guess you can get some stream in JU. In most of the private engineering colleges of Kolkata you will probably get any stream of your choice.

With your engg rank you will get any stream of your choice in any private engg college of Calcutta and probably civil in Shibpur.

Rinto, do what your heart yearns for. You know best what you want to do. If you think going into a clinical line is what you wish to then go for dental. Both dentistry and engineering are cream career options. It’s upto you now.

The cut off varies from year to year. But the minimum marks to be obtained in all 3 is 50%.

As far as I know, last year MBBS seats were over by 790 rank. So there is a thin chance. If seats would increase this year, then he would be getting a seat for sure. But I have no concrete information if new seats are really being added this year.

Where did you get the news? Did it appear in the govt. advertisement? If there are seats more than 1105, then it might be either counting seats from KPC Medical college as well or soon-to-be opened Kalyani Medical College or new extra seats in colleges like CMC, etc.

@aparajita: NRI quota is applicable only for private colleges. There is only 1 private medical college in wb right now - KPC medical college.
@rupsha: Counselling timing is on july 1, july 2 this year at NRS - that’s what I have heard. You must verify this with the relevant newspaper advertisement.

In second counselling you will get in Kolkata for sure. Also, you won’t have to pay again for admission. Keep an eye on newspaper advertisements for 2nd counselling date. I’ll write here if I come to know the date.

The best person to answer your question would be someone from the counselling committee. From what I have heard, there won’t be third counselling this time in all probability. Also heard that KPC will participate in 2nd counselling although initially I came to know that KPC won’t be having admissions at all.

It is learnt from news paper that 695 seats in existing WB medical colleges are going to be enhanced along with 3 new Colleges at Malda, Baharampur and kamarhati with 100 seats each. Please tell sir whether the increment in seats will be effective from current year(2010-11) and will be offered in second counselling?

695 new seats in existing colleges has been on the cards for quite sometime. The 3 new colleges is what I came to know recently from this news article - http://www.telegraphindia.com/1100729/jsp/bengal/story_12744317.jsp
But these seats will be added next year onwards only. The new colleges are yet to be visited by MCI. Once MCI visits and gives their approval, the colleges can start admissions.
The extra seats in existing colleges also need MCI approval.

@subhajit & @amrita both of u sud get mbbs this year.though i do not know what was the closing rank for kalyani medical clg in last year.but i think it went more than 860+.blv me this year 200 medical seats must increased (in cmc , in nrs),mci recently visited r g kar also.so u can tak another 100 seats.moreover there is every possibility in increment in seats in bmc,nbmc,national,bankura also.so i think it will between 300 -700, being pragmatic u can tak 500 seats are going to b increased .so this year closing rank for mbbs sub be around 1025 (if 300 seats r increased) or 1150-75 (500 seats) or 1275-1300(for 700).so u guys can njoy

can any1 tell me what was the closing rank for mbbs last year?and wht is the % for reservation?um really very confused ,in 2006 with only 1105 seats 792 rank got mbbs bt with addition of another 100 seats in 2010 , last rank got mbbs was 834(@ amrita).every 1 is sying seat is increasing..but no1 is giving any confirmation.wht i had come to know from ananda baZAR PATRIKA,tht cm has increased mbbs seats by 300 with an ordinance and she is also trying to increase another 300 to 400 seats.if i consider only 300 seats are going to be increased,thn total no of gov seats for mbbs is being 1505.and for general tis going to b 58%(um not sure) i.e 873 seats for gen.now hoping tht 30 ranks hv gone to sc\st(@ aditi gen rank 2727 sc rank 93) before my rank of 915.so effective seat becomes 903.so mathematically i need anothe 12 seats to get into mbbs.but statistically 1200 seats wet for 834 .so rank :seats .69 ,for last 3 previous years , rank went near ab 760-792,tanking lower value and higher value rank :seats 760:1105 =.69 792:1105=.71, so last year trend for mbbs was higher than normal year(whr rank:seat =.70),this might b due recession effect lack of job after doing btch. bt last year campusing was good in ju,besu. so i hope this will being rank : seat ratio narmal to .7. so this time with no of 1500 seats, 1050 rank sud get mbbs.or if it follows previous year it sd b like 1035.but if it follows further increase trend for mbbs then it may go down upto 1000 rank. and for first counseling 50-60 rank will b less.

Let me share what i came to know about MBBS admission. To be frank, i don’t gurantee that the information given by me is accurate, but it’s about my concern. The total seats in medical is around 1205 and for quotas, it’s around 33%. So, for GEN cadidates, around 800. The Hon’ble Supreme Court has ordered to reserve around 50% of total seats. The central institutes has already started to follow this from previous year. I came to know about this from my sister who was admitted to IIT,KGP last year. IITs have already started to follow. And there is almost cent percent chance that west bengal medical council will obey this from this year. If we take that 400 seats will increase, there will be total 1600 seats, and for GEN, it will remain around 800. So, there will be no increase in seats for GEN. If more than 400 (i.e. 700), then there is chance. Let me know if i am wrong.

ya, you are right there is 50% reservation in IIT.in this 50%, there is reservation for obc i.e near about 27%. but this 50% reservation is only for institutes run by central gov. in west bengal there is no such reservation for obc , till this year ,as there was no option for obc .but reservation for mbbs seats for wb jee more than 33% may b near ab 42 to 43%.(for sc/st 22.5% (15% for sc ,& 7.5% for st,) may be 3% for pc and 1% for donar & 15% for aipmt)….{{now even if i accept your opinion thn there is 50% reservation than 800 seats are reserved for sc & st(as there is no obc) but there only 3400+ ranks hav been published ,more thn 2800+ rank given to gen , so only 600+ candidates for reserved 800 seats ,now who who r going to fill this 200 seats ??? it must be gen .moreover 100 ranks must b shared by both gen &sc/st. so effective seats for gen will b 1100..so sometime reservation is good for….kidding }}

@sudeepta : as per i m concerned, the only way to get rank card is from official website(i.e. results.banglarmukh.gov.in). as amrita said already, counselling is far away, i think we need not hurry. but the only thing that is haunting me is few candidates have already got their rank cards while we don’t. how could that be possible???

Hi somarpan, thanx 4 ur rank card reply.Acc to internet info Apollo group MD Preetha Reddy had a meeting wid then CM B Bhattacharya & declared opening of 1 med col at kol in 2011 & 3 hospitals at siliguri,kgp & 1 at som other place.TMC after taking charge of WB promised a 600 seats increment in various med col of WB. CENTRAL GOVT OF INDIA is opening 2 new col under indraprasth univ 1 at Ram Manohar Lohia hspt & 1 at Safdarjung hspt.But about 3 new med col erection simultaneously,it requires a huge amount of fund ie Apollo is investing 700 mn rupees 4 d new project, WB govt is already in crisis,so it w’ll be a lil difficult to be blevd till des colleges com in2 existence.Most probably no chance of opening 4 next yr also.It will be gud if TMC does som miracle…

@nisha : there r currently 1205 MBBS seats & abt 43% r reserved for quota(including AIPMT)….plz read subhajit’s post…& also amrita’s post abt last year’s closing ranks…..u will surely get an idea…there may be an increase in number of seats….but it is nt confirmed…..it should be noted that previous Govt. appealed MCI for 100/150 seats increase in every college….it was discarded/cancelled……nw the Govt. has appealed for 50 seats increase in some colleges…..the approval/denial will be published in the end of june or 1st week of july…..so better wait for that….
@seats are hopefully increasing ,but not by much…695 seats are not going to be increased this tym .50 seats in 3 medical colg s of kol are likely to be increased, only in r.g kar 100 seats are going to be increased.so tatal increase in seats in kolkata likely to be 200-250.and in districts 150 seats may be increased.(bmc,nbmc,bsm 50 each), so taltal increase is going to be around 250-400.but seats are increasing surely.so tatal intak for gen wil be near ab 1000 rank in gov mc.may be 950-1000 .it wil not change much.for 75 seats in private additional 100 rank.so mbbs seats will end within 1050-1100 rank.but hope for the best …because mci has decided to increase 10000 seats in mbbs all over the country. already increased 400-500 seats in many states from this year.
@dipon….u are wright only r.g kar medical college has got the approval for increasing 50 seats.as from the beginning ,principal of r. g kar was willing to increase 50 seats not 100 seats.after 4 th june mci communicated with the colleges that they can only increase 300 seats with these present infrastructure.very next day cm announced tht 300 seats has been increased. but to increase 100 seats in medical college ..1500 bed is must.so with in 1 weak cm ordered to increase 700 beds in different medical colleges asked mci to revisit before final permission letter.so now u can only hope for the best

@sudeepta : I think we don’t need another domicile certificate bcz we have alredy given that in Admit Card. That should be enough. But, to be sure, you may contact the person as given in the prospectus(page 27)…….

Calcutta Medical College and Hospital will have 95 more seats in its MBBS course from the next academic session starting August.
The Medical Council of India sent the “letter of intent” approving the increase in the number of seats from 155 to 250 to the medical college on Monday.
“We received the letter of intent today. The admission process will start in July,” said principal Utpal Dutta.
The new academic session will start on August 1 and the admission procedure will have to be wrapped up by July 31, according to a Supreme Court verdict.
The council has also renewed its consent for the MBBS course at the College of Medicine and JNM Hospital in Kalyani, and KPC Medical College in Jadavpur, a private institute.
The nod for the three institutes followed a visit by council representatives on June 11.
The council had withheld the renewal of consent for the Kalyani medical college and the nod for the increase in the number of seats at Calcutta, NRS and RG Kar medical colleges after an inspection in March on the grounds of inadequate infrastructure.
The medical colleges had applied for a repeat visit, which the council conducted on June 11. The simultaneous checks at seven institutions were aimed at preventing “borrowing” of teachers to cover up teacher shortage.
Officials at NRS and RG Kar medical colleges said they had not received any letter from the council on Monday. The two colleges have 150 MBBS seats each and want to increase the count by 100.
“We are expecting a communication from the council on Tuesday,” said NRS superintendent L.K. Ghosh.
Sagar Dutta Hospital in Kamarhati, too, is yet to hear from the council on its plea for upgrade to medical college.
According to MCI rules, a medical college will undergo inspection every year for the first five years. This is the second year for the Kalyani medical college and third for KPC.
“We got permission to admit the second batch of students on June 25. Of the 100 MBBS seats, 85 will be filled up by students from the JEE merit list. The rest will go to students who have cracked the all-India entrance tests,” said Bhanu Ranjan Ghosh, the superintendent of the College of Medicine and JNM Hospital.
KPC Medical College, which has 150 seats, was inspected on May 26.

with only 400 seats (250+150)….closing rank for nrs will be less than 325..if 100 seats are added in nrs (likely to be ..) then it will be 375 to 400.

@amrita there is no chance for us in gov mc.i hav heard yesterday tht it is very hard to get mci approval in nrs and in r.g kar due to lack of teaching staff though mci will give another visit before giving final answer.it is really very frustrating even 4 months before the exm all media started to claim 1000 seats are going to b increased & on the day of the exm it was 400 -500 nw tis only 95…

We r sudents. So we just can guess. The possibility of increasing number of seat can be maximum 700. Last yr there were 1205 mbbs seats. Now it could be 1900(max.) this yr. In this yr, for mbbs, i think it may go down upto 1300-1320. U may get bds in northbengal.
my medical (gen) rank is 838…is there the slightest chance of getting a seat in bankura sammilani medical college? and is NBMC better than bankura college?

@swastik : in govt. medical colleges, previous year’s closing rank was 834 (as told by amrita)…..& this year already 395 seats in govt. have increased i.e. 229 seats (58%) for GEN….so if we follow previous year’s trend, it will be surely above 834+229=1063…… so u will definitely get MBBS…best of luck…..& yes, it is published today….. thnx 4 ur reply……finger crossed../..

with 1600(taking 250 seats in nrs) there are no of seats for gen 912-940.(some time reserved seats for pc is given to gen) closing rank 4 gov mc after 1060-1095 after 2nd counseling after 1st counseling it will be 1040 -1060. and for private it will be 1300+
no wrong.the total no. of seats considering the NRS increment in west bengal is 1850.for general candidates, the closing rank might come down to 1200 ……

ya total no seats considering 250 seats in nrs is 1850 ,but in these 1850 mbbs seats gov seats 1600 and 250 seats in private mc,( 72 seats sud be given to wbjee gen candidate) .for these 72 seats 200-250 rank sud get mbbs.in 1600 gov seats ,41.5-43% is reserved for different categories.so there are only 912-928 seats for gen.now if u consider previous 4-5 year’s counseling record ,u will find 140-160 ranks cut off is always there.thus closing rank for mbbs sud be 912-928+140-160=1052-1088. so closing rank for mbbs (both including gov & private) is going to 1052-1088+200-250=1288-1333….tis true it is very hard to predict closing rank for 72 seats in private mc.

@somarpan um sure no increment in seats in bmc,bsmc,nbmc. 100 seats may b increase in nrs.after getting permission from mci .though i also heard 50 seats are going to be increased in nbmc.but chances of any further increment is being slimmer with tym.aimpt counselling is very close,so if seats hav to be increased,it has to be very soon . indeed to increase seats ,mci first send a letter of intend to the central gov ,on the basis of that central takes action. nw if mci doest want to increase thn a lettr of disapproval is sent to the cntrl gv..thn central health dpt requests mci to giv another chance .i think nrs,nbmc and all other colleges hv got another final chance.nrs is likely to pass the test this tym.

BUT according cmc staff tr.challan and rank card is enough.
To collect tr challan u hv to go 2 d regional tr office or rbi.best place to collect from rbi.it will take 30 mins -1 hr.
though in the website .it is mentioned that counselling form will be available from different mc, but um doubtful ab this.i think cmc is going to be the only one center,if so thn really tis going test our patience ,after all this year 3400+ rank holder.

guys wht news i hv got ,there is going to b increase in cut off marks by 6-7 marks thn previous yr, so to rank within in 1000 u need to get 119-121.after that for 1 mark 50-80 rank will b lost ,so if u get 117 ur rank will 1200-1300.with 113 it will b around 1500-1600.this yr 250 seats might increase.
