Broadband to come of age, thanks to BSNL
Published December 16th, 2006 in Technology. Tags: No Tags.Time to rejoice. BSNL all set to increase the Dataone speed from 256 kbps to 2 mbps. And this is going to happen pretty soon, by early 2007. As of now any connection below 256 kbps can’t be termed broadband as per government set standard. That criteria is also going to change. BSNL, having 9 lakh broadband subscribers with a market share of 43%, plans to provide 5 million broadband connections. If you are wondering about the rates, well they won’t be hiked! I am all too excited. Can’t wait to surf on 2 mbps!
Update:
No more waiting! New speed is effective from Jan 1!! New Year gift could not have been any better. Apart from speed, the downloading limits will increase too. For example, in Home 250 and Business 700 plans they have been enhanced to 1 GB and 4 GB from 400 MB and 2 GB, respectively. The limits in other plans have been suitably enhanced. With the increase in downloading limit, a Plan 250 customer will get a benefit of Rs 840 per month for 1 GB limit and Business Plan 700 customer will get a benefit of Rs 2400 per month for limits up to 4GB.
